Traditionally, when we think of Holland, windmills, wooden shoes, wondrous flowers, and wheels come to mind. There are still over 1,000 working windmills that are functioning the same way they did more than a hundred years ago. A group of 19 windmills may be found at Kinderdijk in the province of South Holland, some of which you may tour inside. Wooden shoes may not be worn very often anymore, but thanks to tourists, their production has continued. Wondrous flowers are, of course, still in generous supply in the Netherlands. Spanning about 70 acres, the Keukenhof in Lisse is the most famous and biggest bulb show in the world. The bicycle is a common mode of transportation in its own right - there are more than twice as many bikes as cars! © 2009, The Globe Pequot Press, LaVerne Ferguson-Kosinski Information by Europe by Eurail
The Amsterdam Centraal Station is the focal point of all rail, tram, bus, and Metro traffic within the city. Although Amsterdam's Centraal Station abounds in digital train information displays, the station still provides train-departure information by separate directions on the standard train-departure posters with their yellow background. Rail service throughout the Netherlands is so dense - departures approximately every half hour - that these sectional timetables to Rotterdam, Utrecht, and other cities are most helpful. Netherlands Railways accepts the wide variety of Eurail passes. © 2009, The Globe Pequot Press, LaVerne Ferguson-Kosinski Information by Europe by Eurail
