AUSTRALIA

Countrylink: XPT and Xplorer

CountryLink train services have only 3 spaces available for carrying bicycles, surfboards or snowboards. Coaches have one space reserved for this type of item. Please reserve a place when purchasing your ticket and limit the weight to 20kg. A fee of $12.10 applies. If you are taking your bicycle, Countrylink would like you to arrive 60 minutes before the scheduled departure, disassemble the bike and pack it into bicycle boxes.

Great Southern Railway: The Indian Pacific, The Ghan, The Overland

You can check-in a bicycle as luggage, but excess luggage fees apply.

QR Traveltrain: Westlander, Inlander, Spirit of the Outback, Sunlander, Tilt Train

Bicycles are accepted as checked luggage on all QR Traveltrain services except for Tilt Train and Spirit of Capricorn services.

AUSTRIA

OBB

On OBB, you can transport your bike in a storage facility on the train for a special price or have a door-to-door service deliver it. BENELUX

SNBC (Belgian National Railway)

If you'd like to take your bicycle on the train, there are two ways of doing it: a one way trip using the 4.40 EUR* "cycle" card for a bicycle and the 8.40 EUR* "tandem" card for a tandem, or a "one-day card" (libre-parcours d'un jour) which lets you take your bicycle on the train for 7.30 EUR* or your bike for 14.60 EUR* all day long anywhere in the country.

Your bike can be carried free of charge as "hand luggage", on condition that it is dismantled (wheels removed) and placed in a special cover for bike transport with maximum dimensions of 1.2 x 0.9m. When it is packed like this, your bike can be stowed in one of the spaces available at the ends of each carriage.

Eurostar

Your bike can be carried free of charge as "hand luggage", on condition that it is dismantled (wheels removed) and placed in a special cover for bike transport. When it's packed like this, it can be stowed in one of the spaces available at the end of each carriage, but make sure the cover has a label showing your name and seat number. Pre-printed labels are available at the Eurostar terminal at your departure station.

If your bike can't be dismantled, you can send it via our registered luggage service for 25.00 EUR. It'll be available at your destination station 24 hours after registration. If you'd like to have your bike available as soon as you arrive, we would advise you to register it 24 hours before you set off.

BULGARIA

BDZ

You can take a bike on you with your journey, but not on the same train. There is an extra charge for it as one unit of luggage weighing 20 kg, and the value of the bicycle as an amount of money must be entered in the consignment note. If it has a headlamp, a pump, etc. attached to it, a list of items is attached. You will receive you bicycle at the luggage department of the destination station.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Travelers can transport bikes on the train with a specially purchased bike ticket. Storage facilities (not only for bikes but for all types of luggage) are also provided at most of the railway stations

FINLAND

VR

Travelers can transport bikes on the train with a specially purchased bike ticket. (Transport as carry-on baggage, rent a bike, bike shipping/consignment). Bicycles can be transported as carry-on baggage in most long-distance trains, and in all Helsinki commuter traffic trains with the exception of rush hours. Bicycles can not be transported in trains between Finland and Russia.

The fares: EUR 9 in long-distance trains, EUR 4,20 in commuter trains (within Helsinki Region the price of an adult one-way ticket is charged).

FRANCE

SNCF, TGV

SNCF offers places to store bicycles onboard many long-distance and regional trains (Corail and TGV).Cycles that have been folded and packed in a special bag (max. dimensions 120x90 cm) are carried free of charge in luggage racks on daytime TGV and Corail services. Le Service Bagage (luggage service) will transport your bicycles; they will collect your bicycles from wherever you wish and deliver them to your travel destination.

In the case of Main Line trains, you can carry your bicycle for free as hand luggage if the wheels are removed and it is carried in a special bike bag. You can also carry it without removing the wheels in the bicycle space of some Main Line trains or in the goods van. On some TGVs, the SNCF has fitted out a space that can house 4 bicycles. The price of reservation is €10.

Artesia

You may bring your bike on the Artesia if taken in special cycle-carrier sacks or in the dedicated bicycle carriages. The Price for taking bicycles on an international train is 10 euro.

Elipsos

The customer must reserve a complete roomette, have only a maximum of two bicycles per roomette, the maximum size must be: 120x90 cms, and they must be folded and packed in specially designed bicycle bags with the pedals removed and the handlebars turned 90º.

Thalys

You can take your bicycle on board the Thalys as long as it folds up and is transported in a cover. For safety reasons, no other types of bicycle are allowed on board the Thalys.

GERMANY

DB: ICE, DB Nachtzug, CityNightLine, Thalys

You may take your bike with you on all local trains and many IC/EC trains. There are bicycle transport options on nearly every CNL Train.

Cisalpino

Standard tariffs and conditions of transport apply to bicycles aboard EC trains “Canaletto” and “Cinque Terre” on the Gotthard route. Bicycles (packed in TranZBags) are allowed as carry-on luggage aboard EC trains on Lötschberg and Simplon routes. Like many other rail service operators, Cisalpino cannot allow bicycles or TranZBags aboard its tilting trains, owing to space restrictions.

GREECE

OSE

The passengers can transport their bicycles in Greece only as registered luggage and only in domestic routes. Local trains are excluded, as well as the Inter City trains No 50, 51 and the interregional trains 504, 505 on the route Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens.

HUNGARY

It is not possible to carry bicycles as portable loads on either international or domestic services over MÁV lines.

IRELAND

CIE

Bicycles cannot be taken on DART or Commuter trains unless folded and suitably covered. On Intercity trains bicycles not folded and covered can be carried in the guard’s compartment or the special cycle racks where provided. A valid ticket for the bicycle must be obtained before traveling.

NIR

A bicycle storage area is located at one end of each train, indicated by a bike symbol on the exterior of the train. Up to four bikes can be strapped securely to a wall-mounted rail. Six tip-up seats are also located in this area for use by cyclists or other passengers.

ITALY

Trenitalia: Eurostar Italia, Intercity & Intercity Night, Intercity Plus, Artesia, Riviera, Elipsos, etc.

Given space availability, bicycles may be brought on Surburban, Regional, Direct and Interregional trains, which are marked in the Timetable by the appropriate pictogram. A supplement of Euro 3.50 must be paid or, alternatively to the supplement ticket, a second class full price ticket having the same characteristics of the ticket in the passenger's possession.

On some Intercity, Eurocity and Euronight trains, also marked in the Timetable with an appropriate pictogram, a supplement of Euro 5.00 and Euro 12.30 (for international trains) is to be paid for such transport. The supplement is not refundable.

On all trains, free transport of bicycles is allowed if carried in the appropriate bag with the following limitations: in the SL (sleeping cars) and carriages with bunks they are allowed only in specifically allocated compartments; they are admitted onboard Eurostar Italia trains provided they are placed in the areas situated in halls of the carriages. If there is no further space, they may be placed elsewhere, provided they do not cause hindrance or inconvenience for other clients or personnel on board. It is also possible to store your empty bike bag for free in all participating stations for a period of 24 hours following the validating of your ticket.

NORWAY

NSB

Each passenger is permitted hand luggage weighing up to 30 kg, which you can carry on board. You will have to bring your bike into the train and put it in the assigned area for bikes and take it out again upon arrival at the station of destination. The train personnel will be ready to assist you if needed.

NSB Regional train network

Trains where it is possible to make a reservation for your bike is marked with a bike sign in the timetable. You should always make a reservation for your bike well in advance before your journey and this ticket must be bought before you enter the train. We recommend reserving and buying a ticket for your bike at the same time you make your own ticket reservation. Reservation for the bike can only be made in Norway.

The Navvies on the Bergen line

In summertime you will find a lot of bikers on The Navvies between Haugastøl-Finse-Myrdal-Flåm. An extra train to bring bikes up and down are in traffic in summer season only. You also have the option to have your bike taken care of delivered to you separately.

NSB Local train network

As long as there is space available you can bring you bike with you on the train. No reservation can be made beforehand, except on trains in the region between Stavanger-Kristiansand.

POLAND

PKP Regional

Bicycles can be brought on all commuter, regional and long-distance trains at the owner's risk. Cycles hire and other bike-related services ( eg. cycle storage facilities ) are not available .

PORTUGAL

Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses

The transport of bicycles is permissible on the Lisbon local and regional trains. For local services, the bicycle can be carried on the Sintra Line Trains, Cascais, Azambuia and Sado. On weekends and holidays there is no charge for the transport of bicycles. Other days there is a fee of 1.50 Euro (one-way) and 2.50 Euro (round-trip). Daily transport of bicycles is free on regional and international trains, as well as the local trains of Coimbra. To travel with a bicycle you should seek the advice of the conductor to issue you transportation permit and guarantee (or not) the transport based on availability of space. The loading and unloading of the bicycle is the responsibility of the passenger and should not obstruct the doors nor create any difficulty for the other passengers.

SLOVENIA

SZ

The passenger is responsible for the bike, which remains under his/her surveillance during the journey. In the absence of a dedicated bike zone, the bike may be carried in a passenger area on the train, providing it does not cause disturbance to other passengers and on condition it does not damage the seats or the coach in any way.

Passengers may take one bike aboard the train. Groups of more than 10 passengers traveling with bikes must announce their journey at least 8 days before departure. Otherwise, bikes will only be allowed if traffic conditions and train capacity permit. In international traffic with Croatia, passengers must be present in the dedicated bike zone during on-train customs inspection .

SPAIN

RENFE: Euromed, Alaris, Altaria, AVE

The transportation of a bicycle on a train is admissible, based upon schedules, only when it is authorized by the Commuter Center (Núcleo de Cercanías), and the rule is only one bicycle per passenger. The loading, storage and unloading of each bicycle is the responsibility of the passenger, and RENFE workers will not be responsible for any damage or loss that could occur during the voyage. The safety and wellness of other passengers is priority. The owner of the bicycle must be aware and take this into consideration, at all times, when traveling with the bicycle.

SWEDEN

SJ

There is a limited amount of bicycle storage space on the Oresund trains serving the Gothenburg-Copenhagen and Kalmar-Alvesta-Copenhagen routes. If you wish to take your bike on a train in Skåne, the local transport provider (Skånetrafiken) reserves a certain amount of space on the Pågatågen train. If you wish to send your bike between other destinations, contact the coach-operated transit courier and freight service at your station.

SWITZERLAND

SBB

On weekends there are no restrictions on accompanied bikes on S-Bahn trains in Zurich. From Mondays to Fridays, however, accompanied bikes are allowed only from 08.00 to 16.00 and from 19.00 to 06.00. Groups of 10 or more people are not allowed to take accompanied bikes on trains, and passengers are allowed to take only one bike each. During the bike-season from 21. March till 31. October reservations are compulsory for accompanied bikes on Intercity tilting trains (train-category ICN).
